The 27-year-old hurler took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, but Desmond Jennings broke it up with a double to left field on Duffy’s 101st pitch. “Everybody’s happy about that”, Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Rays: RHP Alex Cobb (Tommy John surgery) threw another bullpen session and will will get another rehab start at Class A Charlotte on Thursday night.

Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy has held the Tampa Bay Rays hitless through seven innings.

“It’s an honor to have a game like those guys had”, Duffy said, “but I understand they had a lot more of those than I did. For someone to reach out and come get me it’s a really good feeling”. The Rays received two minor-leaguers for Moore in addition to 25-year-old infielder Matt Duffy, who now is on the disabled list with a strained Achilles tendon and is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon.

“Few and far between times, somebody has all of their pitches working, so it was good”, Duffy said. “It wasn’t looking too good for a little while”. They added what they believe to be those pieces, and the team looks more well-rounded as the final stretch run begins before October.

Kelvin Herrera worked a flawless ninth for his second save.

Duffy struck out 12 and allowed his only baserunner when Logan Forsythe walked on a 3-2 pitch leading off the fourth Monday night.

Archer gave up three runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings, striking out six to raise his AL-leading total to 161. Tampa Bay snapped a four-game win streak.

So what if if it was only Steve Pearce and Brandon Guyer who were traded from the lineup.

The Boston Red Sox prevailed 2-1 against the Seattle Mariners, the New York Yankees got the better of the New York Mets 6-5 in their derby, while the San Diego Padres trumped the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3.

Both Kevin Jepsen and Enny Romero turned in scoreless appearances in the loss, Jepsen’s seventh out of eight since rejoining the Rays and Romero’s sixth straight with full scoreless innings in relief in three of his last four appearances. Kimbrel made his first appearance since having surgery to fix a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.
