Meanwhile, RCMP E-division headquarters scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon “in relation to allegations of child luring and sexual exploitation involving a member of the RCMP”.
Acting Cmdr. Brenda Butterworth-Carr said the RCMP received a call before 10 p.m. with regards to the incident after it started to play out on social media.
Surrey RCMP are investigating one of their own after a vigilante group claims to have ensnared a Mountie in a sting operation.
The officer under investigation has been suspended and will remain so throughout the course of investigation.
Butterworth-Carr made it clear that “if these allegations are substantiated, we will be taking immediate steps to separate ourselves from this individual”.
“There is no room in the RCMP for this kind of behaviour, or this kind of individual”, Butterworth-Carr said.
The Surrey chapter was established at the beginning of July, according to media reports.
The group with growing numbers of chapters across Canada, including one in Thunder Bay have posted a video online that they say appear to have captured what the RCMP are saying is the “public shaming” of an RCMP Officer.
However, he did say the work of Creep Catchers can be very counterproductive. After sharing some messages, they arrange to meet, often in public locations like parking lots.
The man uttered an expletive and ran away, with creep catchers in hot pursuit. In one incident earlier this summer in Surrey, a target tried fleeing from Creep Catchers members in a auto and allegedly crashed into a parked truck.
“Where you going? That guy’s a pig!” “That guy’s a cop pedo”.
“The investigation is active and ongoing and is looking into the actions of all parties”.
They were unable to locate the man. Police arrived on scene.
Laforge has not responded to multiple requests for comment. Over the past 40 hours, investigators have identified witnesses, seized evidence and conducted interviews, Butterworth-Carr said. Tyler Svendson, officer in charge of the Behavioural Sciences Group.

Svendson added that RCMP have officers trained to find child luring suspects online, and groups like Creep Catchers only serve to set back their investigations.
