Rdio Adds Nearly 500 Live Broadcasts
RDIO has added 500 broadcast stations throughout the UNITED STATES to its mix of algorithmic and expert-curated stations. Playback requires a subscription of at least $4 a month, which caps offline listening at 25 songs.

Tracks played by traditional radio stations are still identified by the app, allowing paid subscribers to download them for later listening, while free subscribers are able to favorite them and use them to start standard Rdio radio stations. For instance, iHeartRadio has long been a key player in this area; its iOS app offers some 2,000 live stations for iOS device owners to listen to, on the go. Rdio points out that you can find similar stations, see recently played songs, or favorite a song that’s playing.
“Bringing our national platform of stations to Rdio allows us to instantly create broader access for our listeners and new opportunities for advertisers to reach their target audiences”, said Lew Dickey, CEO of Cumulus. Rdio is getting into the live Internet radio game as well.
Rdio, one of the smaller competitors in the crowded music streaming space, is trying to stand out with a very old-school feature: hundreds of local radio stations featuring live DJs.

Popular stations that will be featured include Hip-Hop WRWM (93.9 The Beat)/Indianapolis, Rock KLOS/Los Angeles, Country WSM (95-5 NASH Icon), Country WNSH (95-5 NASH Icon)/New York, Triple A KFOG/San Francisco and more.
