Reactions to Kaine tilt positive as Democrats seek unity

“That was the worst day. of my life”.

Just after Clinton and Kaine finished, another potential vice presidential choice and favorite of the party’s liberal wing threw her weight behind the ticket, in a move that could quell some progressive angst about the Kaine selection. Clinton praised the deal when she was secretary of state, but has since distanced herself from it.

“If she’s hoping to reach out to her own fractured Democratic Party, I don’t know that Tim Kaine solves that problem for her”, said Brian Westrate, with the Republican Party of the 3rd Congressional District.

And she alluded to Kaine’s undefeated record as a politician as an indication that he must be doing something right.

“At every stage of his career, the people who know him best have voted to give him a promotion”.

Kaine, for his part, described himself as a “utility player”.

She also asked the faithful to keep her son, a Marine who deploys overseas Monday, and his fiancé in their prayers. Kaine’s use of Spanish and English during the rally was also no mistake, as there are many Latinovoters in Florida that will be harmed by Trump’s immigration policies.

The rally came two days before Democrats from across the country gather in Philadelphia to formally put forward their team for the November election. “While our service members are out there on the front lines, Trump’s saying he’d leave our allies at the mercy of an increasingly aggressive Russian Federation”. They say his campaign was hurt by Hillary Clinton’s overwhelming support from superdelegates.

The Bernie Sanders campaign is assuring its delegates they will not miss votes if they attend a private meeting with him before the start of the Democratic National Convention. He has been active in the Senate on foreign relations and military affairs and built a reputation for working across the aisle as Virginia’s governor and mayor of Richmond.

He pivoted to gun control, saying that he and Clinton “will not rest”, until there is gun reform.

“People are going to discount Tim Kaine, and have in the past, and it’s going to be a lot more exciting than maybe what Bernie Sanders delegates will think”, said Katie Naranjo, a Clinton superdelegate from Austin, Texas.

Beneath the nice-guy image, friends said Kaine isn’t afraid of throwing elbows while campaigning and has a strong competitive streak.

Hillary Clinton’s choice of Sen.

Clinton delegate Roger Salazar of California said he was rooting for Clinton to select Rep. Xavier Becerra, a Hispanic and one of the most powerful Democrats in the House. However, Clinton and her advisers appear to believe they can win those voters regardless of the VP pick, but want a strong foreign policy figure to shield the ticket from an nearly certain onslaught from the GOP.

Maeola Strother, a retired teacher who has known the Kaines since they joined the church, said the senator is “just Tim” when he’s at St. Elizabeth. “He’s well-liked in the area of the country he’s from, which is an area that she’s got less exposure in”.

“If you bring in someone with great credentials, that’s fine, but inclusivity of the progressive agenda can be a more important message”, Bullard said. They do, however, think they can make voters dislike her a little less by offering testimonials from people she’s had a positive impact on, while making her more relatable. Kaine meets that test, Clinton said.

She called Kaine “the proud father of three-grown up kids”, Nat, Woody and Annella.

“I am looking the other way”, he said.

Late Friday, Clinton tapped Kaine, 58, for the vice presidential nomination after weeks of intense speculation. Florida is always a battleground state during elections and this one is no different.

And he spent time going after Trump for the business mogul’s failure to release tax returns and for what he called the GOP nominee’s “Me First” attitude.

“We’re in love with him”. He’s a humble person, with a good background.

“You can add this quote to other quotes that are stubbornly connected to John Wesley, despite the fact that there is no source that connects them to Wesley’s pen”, Kevin Watson, assistant professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies at Candler School of Theology at Emory University wrote in a 2013 blog post.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Clinton newly named running-mate, on Saturday offered a preview of the contrast she and Kaine plan to draw against the Republican ticket. When Kaine would take hits from Republicans or the media when he was governor, Cribbs said Kaine would often jokingly put on Elvis Costello’s “Blame it on Cain”, in auto rides.
