After Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for president Thursday night, an advisor for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed the former secretary of state’s speech as “an insulting collection of cliches and recycled rhetoric”.

President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden and Mrs Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, spoke passionately and powerfully about why she is qualified to sit in the Oval Office and why Donald Trump is not.

While most convention speakers focused on a bright future under a Clinton presidency, many carried the theme of attacking Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his portrayal of America.

“Today, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more ideal union: The first time that a major party has nominated a woman for President”, Clinton said. “It’s a daughter talking about her mother and the fact that she’s her greatest role model …”

“Tonight, I ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me”. But in Hillary Clinton’s America, millions of people are left out in the cold. “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man you can trust with nuclear weapons”. But her primary focus was persuading Americans to not be seduced by Republican presidential candidate Mr Trump’s promises to restore economic security and fend off threats from overseas. What tone will Clinton take? “You might have noticed, I love talking about mine”. “I am getting hit and they don’t mean it and there’s a lot of lies being told”, he said.
