Mata was substituted in Sunday’s Community Shield win over Leicester City just 27 minutes after coming on, fuelling speculation that his days were numbered at Old Trafford.

“It feels unbelievable to win the first official game”, Ibrahimovic told MUTV.

“This is my 31st trophy and I’m super happy”.

“Zlatan will be more risky when we are more dominant and play closest to the box”, he said.

He added of the match: “It was a hard game, we played against a good team, the champions from last season, and you can see it’s a very strong team”.

Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy had earlier punished an error by Marouane Fellaini to cancel out FA Cup match-winner Jesse Lingard’s first-half solo goal for United, who claimed a record-extending 21st Community Shield.

“Mata is fine, he understands what I did”, Mourinho said.

The Foxes fought hard in an even game at Wembley Stadium but ultimately fell just short, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic heading a late victor for United. So I dedicate it to him and to my seven players who didn’t play today. “And I’m very honoured and proud to be here”.

And Mourinho paid tribute to Van Gaal – who he worked with at Barcelona – for the laying the groundwork for United’s victory.

“He won the FA Cup to allow me to be back and have one more trophy”. The Community Shield might be a one-off match but it did provide a stern test for the Manchester side as they took on defending Premier League Champions Leicester City. “We begin with a trophy”. They did this and I’m very pleased.
