A spokesperson for Brown’s office said a copy of the letter and a link to the report had also been sent to Carson by email.

Brown told Carson that he had included a USB flash drive “with the complete United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change” report, noting it’s one of many studies that indicate climate change is caused by man’s actions.

Carson held a press conference Tuesday after speaking to the Commonwealth Club public affairs forum in San Francisco, where he rejected scientific consensus that human activity causes climate change.

“I do know there are lots of people who say ‘overwhelming science, ‘ however then if you ask them to point out the overwhelming science, they by no means can present it”, Carson stated.

“Gimme a break”, he said.

The UN IPCC report is a conclusive report assessing over 30,000 scientific papers and including the work of over 800 scientists.

That was just what Brown was going for in writing his letter. The Democratic governor asked him to use his substantial intelligence for reviewing the material and said that climate change is much larger than politics.

The United Nations Environment Program and the World Meteorological Organization has created IPCC. Over the years it has become the main resource of regular and up-to-date assessments of climate science. A devastating drought and a string of wildfires across the state have made it a symbol of the consequences of a changing climate, straining the ability of the California government to respond.
