The Founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has pledged to use Nigerian languages in offering services on Facebook.
“I wanted to come to Lagos first because of the vibrant developer and entrepreneurial ecosystem that you guys have here”, Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg says he is visiting, among other places, iHub where he was shown around the Gearbox lab – a prototype development hub.
He said his trip to Nigeria has blown him away in terms of the talents he sees across the country.
“This is not going to be better for Nigeria and Africa alone, but the whole world”.
“So I think that it’s one of great things that you have done”.
“I am impressed by your simplicity in sharing your knowledge and wealth with those with less income”, Buhari was quoted as telling Zuckerberg at a reception in Abuja.
Zuckerberg said he was in Nigeria to promote the penetration of “fast and cheap” internet connectivity, Express-wifi that would help people create online businesses and alleviate poverty. Zuckerberg staged a surprise visit to Nigeria’s capital Lagos on Tuesday and his first stop was a local innovation center and tech hub in Yaba, an area on the mainland of Lagos nicknamed Yabacon Valley.
