The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the fourth time on Tuesday because the Congress continued to insist on the resignation of the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her alleged involvement in serving to Lalit Modi.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is Leader of the Upper House, said government offered that the issue can be discussed in the House with Swaraj making a statement on it, but the opposition rejected it. You don’t want a discussion…

“Please start a discussion immediately”. I am making an offer and would suggest… if they want to start a discussion, then start it immediately. “I asked Shri Arun Jaitley to convey this to Rajya Sabha“, Sushma tweeted amid a series of disruptions and adjournments in Parliament over what has come to be known as Lalitgate.

After a lot of ruckus in the parliament the chair was forced to adjourn the house till 12 noon.

Even in the all the party meeting on Monday, the Congress appeared to be isolated on its stance of “no resignation, no House” as most other parties said in the meeting that a washout of Parliament is not a solution. They reminded the ruling dispensation of the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

Raising the matter soon after the obituary references, Anand Sharma (Cong) demanded a reply from the Prime Minister. Addressing mediapersons, he said that the government has placed on record that request for discussion on Lalit Modi row and Vyapam can be placed.

The Congress has been demanding the resignation of Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for helping former Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi, a “fugitive” as the party calls him, accused of money laundering and violation of foreign exchange rules. “The PM had assured to ensure transparecy, accountability in governance and acting against those indulging in corrupt practices… You have violated the dignity”, he said.
