One of the most fascinating films currently in development is Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One, and now we know who could be playing the main villain. According to THR, Mendelsohn is in early talks for the role of an evil Internet executive in the story which is partially set in a virtual world called Oasis.

Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) has already been cast as the female lead, while the director continues to search for the movie’s young protagonist.

Spielberg is producing Player One with Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah.

Mendelsohn is best known for Animal Kingdom, The Dark Knight Rises, Exodus: Gods & Kings, but is likely to become a better known name by the end of the year, thanks to his major role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is out in December. The creator of Oasis passed away without any heirs, but the pop-culture-obsessive hid an intricate scavenger hunt full of clues based on his favorite movies, games, books, comics, and the like. So when Wade is able to unlock the first puzzle, he finds himself a target of other players who are also hunting for the elusive Easter Egg, including an official from a large industry who has made it a priority to find the Easter Egg at any cost.

Cooke is Sam, a Canadian blogger who goes by the handle Art3mis.

2015 was a great year for formerly under-appreciated, now appreciated Australian character actor Ben Mendelsohn.
