Reagan column: Trump is the only real option for president
During the campaign, he’s pledged repeatedly not to touch Social Security and Medicare, saying his policies will make the country so rich that no changes are needed.

The GOP’s America is a depressing and divided place, facing existential threats around every corner, gripped by “chaos” and a sense of hopelessness. “Make America great again”.
The gap between the two perceptions is stunning, but so too is the parties’ willingness to play against type. What a country … if you’re a Democrat. However, we still don’t know how numerous Sanders faithful will follow him. That’s hard. Last week, some conservatives stayed home from the Republican National Convention, while others whooped and hollered or at least held their nose and golf-clapped for a candidate who, at times, sounded a lot like a Democrat.
He also called Russian President Vladimir Putin “a better leader” than President Barack Obama, noting that “Obama is not a good leader”. John McCain who was his party’s nominee in 2008 – echoed Wallace’s comments.
Through four nights of polished convention pageantry, Democratic heavyweights told a different story about Clinton. “If you remember the 1,237 delegates, they said I would never get there, and I always felt ‘what are they talking about?'” Trump said. I’m here tonight to say, I knew Ronald Reagan.
There are two former Republican presidents alive today: George H.W. Bush and his son George W. Bush. “Donald Trump, you are no Ronald Reagan”. Advocates and other Americans who have met Clinton throughout her career spoke of their quiet moments with one of the world’s most famous women.
A week later, Democrats in Philadelphia agreed about the peril.
Delegates at both the Republican and the Democratic conventions sported outrageous outfits – but the views from their respective gatherings were a study in contrast.
The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent noted, for example, that Clinton “laid out a surprisingly progressive economic agenda”, even while making effort “to show that a progressive economic agenda can be sold to voters who have been drifting to the GOP”. Right now, Trump and Clinton are in a dead heat in the Buckeye State. “Indeed, all of this imagery and rhetoric was deployed in service of an agenda that is remarkably liberal”. We’ve had enough of this for seven years. Maybe voters aren’t in the mood for optimism and confidence.
Good question. It appears the American public is flummoxed over the choice of an obnoxious and potentially risky billionaire against a scandal-coated representative from the nation’s ruling class.
But Democrats are clearly eager to take the risk, careful threading a rhetorical needle. First lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden each cast Clinton as champion for the disadvantaged and a fighter who has withstood decades of Republican attacks.
And with that comes an opportunity.
And The Blaze: “Poll: Trump Leads Clinton Nationally After Convention Bounce”.
“If this had been scheduled in late August or early September, like the other recent conventions, the broadsides might have lasted until Election Day”, he continued.

Baloney. What the senator really did was inject decency, standards and integrity into a GOP nominating process that has abandoned all three in the rush to provide a united front against presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
