Real Madrid confirm Gareth Bale injury

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel di Maria says that he won’t be celebrating if he manages to score against Real Madrid in Wednesday’s Champions League encounter between the two sides.

Wales secured their place in a major global tournament for the first time since 1958 despite a 2-0 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their penultimate qualifier, but Bale still played the full 90 minutes against minnows Andorra three days later.

Bale was substituted at halftime of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Levante that lifted Madrid to the top of the Spanish league table.

But having carried out a further assessment on the injury, Madrid have confirmed Bale is set for another spell on the sidelines and refused to put a timescale on a potential return.

“Following medical tests on Gareth Bale, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the soleus muscle of his left leg. His condition will be monitored”, a club statement read.

News of Bale’s latest injury will come as a blow to Benitez, who is already without a number of key players ahead of the trip to the French capital.

Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and Pepe are also doubtful, while James Rodriguez and Dani Carvajal have been ruled out due to injury.
