Real Madrid could be disqualified from Copa del Rey

Cadiz will report Real Madrid to the Royal Spanish Football Federation for the selection of Denis Cheryshev in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey tie.

Madrid got off to a flying start, beating Cadiz 3-1, with Cheryshev scoring just three minutes into the game, but as it turned out, Cheryshev shouldn’t have been playing at all.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls added to the debate on Tuesday by claiming sportsmen who don’t behave in an “exemplary” manner shouldn’t play for national teams.

“We hope there will be a return match, but I’m not sure [if I’d want Madrid to be expelled as a Cadiz fan]… possibly!”

However, it’s possible Barragan will make some rotations in his squad as Cadiz expect important away Segunda B match against Merida on Sunday, and it’s really hard to expect his team can pull off a surprise over two legs against Real Madrid.

“The club had no idea”, he told reporters after the game. Spanish daily Marca said the 23-year-old will be out of action for a month, which could potentially see him miss seven matches across La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Nevertheless, we won’t know of his intentions until he actually reveals the lineup ahead of the game.

“The judge of the competition will be the one to decide”.

The worrying precedent for Madrid is that Osasuna were thrown out of the competition this season after fielding an ineligible player.

That means he is unlikely to feature tonight, while Benitez also plans to rest Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I have spoken with [Rafael] Benitez and [fellow director] Chendo”. A brilliant lofted pass from James Rodriguez found Cheryshev, who beat the hosts’ offside trap on the left, took one touch and drove a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Cheryshev scored Madrid’s opener from a perfectly-timed long cross by James Rodriguez in the third minute.

One more mistake could be fatal for Benitez at Real Madrid
