“Madrid is always the favorite, it will always be like that”, Zidane said.

“If Real Madrid want to repeat their comeback [against Wolfsburg], it’ll be very hard in the semi-finals”.

City will also be pleased to have avoided Atleti, who are the form team in the competition. The Premier League outfit faced Real in the Champions League 2012-13 group stage.

To the way of reaching first Champions League semifinals Man City defeats France Champion PSG by 1-0 goals at home. “The motivation to play in the semi-finals is unbelievable anyway”.

“We’ll have to be at our best in the two games”. “After the draw past year, it was said that we were lucky because we had eluded Bayern [Munich] and Barcelona, yet Juventus knocked us out”.

10-time champions Real will hope to reclaim the Champions League trophy that they conceded last season to Barcelona, having won the famous La Decima in the 2013/14 final against city rivals Atletico.

Asked if playing the second leg away from home was a disadvantage for his side, Villaverde said it all depended on how the tie unfolded over the 180 minutes.

Atletico-Bayern match will held at Vicente Calderon next 27 April.

The final will be on May 28 in Milan, at San Siro.

Meanwhile, German champions Bayern Munich were given the tough task of breaking down Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the other semifinals.

“It’s no extra motivation”, he said.

“It is a hard draw”. It doesn’t matter which of the three we had to play [Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid make up the four semi-finalists] it was going to be hard.

“But the most important thing was that we didn’t win a title but in Real Madrid it’s very hard – 75 per cent of supporters wanted me to stay”. The Bundesliga side ran out 4-0 winners in the replay following an initial 1-1 draw.

Sevilla’s quartet of titles have all come in the last decade, with victory against Espanyol in 2007 making them just the second club after Real Madrid to win the competition in successive years.
