Real Madrid face expulsion from Copa del Rey

A complaint was raised against Cheryshev’s inclusion in the side for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey game after it was claimed he should have served a suspension which was accrued last season during his loan spell with Villarreal.

Barca had been unsettled by the direct approach from Villanovense in the first keg but at home they got the flawless start with a drive from distance by Alves which looped over a static Fuentes and into the goal.

Isco scored twice after the break before Cristian Marquez s late consolation rounded off the scoring in a 3-1 Madrid win.

“The penalty Cheryshev was given while playing for Villarreal is ineffective in our view, no one had mentioned the sanction to the player”. Cadiz received notification? The reality is that we (Madrid) haven’t received anything. “It hurts us to do so with a friendly club, but the decision taken has been firm and unanimous”. We do not want to talk much.

Madrid’s defence, if they choose to put one up, is likely to centre around them not being advised of Cheryshev’s suspension.

“It is possible that the RFEF communicated to Villarreal that Denis was punished”.

“The RFEF has accepted our appeal and time has been given to Real Madrid to present a defense they deem relevant”, the Cadiz statement said.

Three minutes into the game Denis Cheryshev scored the team’s opening goal, despite the fact that he was not even supposed to be on the pitch. “That’s normal”, he replied, before a tweet from Gerard Pique, clearly enjoying Madrid’s misfortune, was raised.

Osasuna were removed from this season’s Copa del Rey in September after fielding Unai Garcia – who had been sent off against Alaves last season – in a 2-1 victory win over Mirandes.

If found guilty, then the 19-time Copa del Rey winners could be thrown out of the tournament.

Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rules state that a club can be thrown out of the competition if it fields an ineligible player.

Madrid director Emilio Butragueno also insisted that neither the player nor the club was notified about the suspension.
