Real Madrid President Perez: “We support Benitez”

Coach Rafa Benitez was given a vote of confidence Monday by troubled Spanish giants Real Madrid, two days after an embarrassing 4-0 meltdown at home to eternal rivals Barcelona.

Real Madrid is only third in the standings, two points behind second-place Atletico Madrid.

“We have had a board meeting and analysed the sporting situation at Real Madrid”. “But Benitez just started his job and we need to let him do his work”.

It’s being reported that Cristiano Ronaldo is also urging the board to sack Benitez, after handing them the ultimatum that “either he goes, or I go”. But I only talk about this moment.

Although there is speculation that Perez will announce new presidential elections and fire Benitez, he may have called the media to publicly express his support to the coach that he appointed less than six months ago.

Rafinha has extended his contract with FC Barcelona, which can keep him at the club till 2020 as stated on Barcelona’s official website.

Perez clearly went to great lengths to defend Rafa Benitez.

During that game an angry Estadio Santiago Bernabeu crowd carried out a traditional “white hankie” protest calling for Perez to resign, and Ronaldo was loudly whistled by his own team’s supporters.

Benitez has been given time to turn the season around, but his margin for error is getting smaller, and despite what Perez said, his days are likely numbered.

Meanwhile, Messi had replaced Ivan Rakitic in the 56th minute and played the game nicely and created few chances to score.

In the meantime, Ronaldo and Real will try to shake off their El Clasico experience and ready for its next Champions League bout against Shakhtar on Wednesday.

Zinedine Zidane, former player and now the coach of Castilla, Madrid’s reserve side, told reporters: “I am the coach of Castilla. Benitez is the coach of the first team and things are fine like that”, the 43-year-old Zidane told Spanish media.

He will be without the injured left back Marcelo and central defender Sergio Ramos, who needs to rest his injured shoulder and the question is how many first team regulars will he rest ahead of this weekend’s potentially hard trip to Eibar’s small Ipurua Stadium for La Liga.

Carlo Ancelotti says he would like to coach Real Madrid again but does not plan to return to management until next summer.

“I am doing this, like a player, little by little”.
