And Ronaldo took to social media shortly after the final whistle, posting a picture of his Madrid team-mates holding the Super Cup trophy, accompanied with the caption: “Champions”.

Following Real Madrid’s 3-2 extra-time win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, club president Florentino Perez did not count out the possibility of further signings. Marcelo also acts nearly as an extra midfielder sending handsome crosses into the box and he did today in placing the ball right onto the head of the diving Sergio Ramos in extra time who headed the ball into the bottom corner but, the goal was waved off as Ramos was called for a foul before the ball reached him.

In the additional time, Real Madrid secured the trophy.

On Tuesday night, Real Madrid beat Sevilla in dramatic, last-minute fashion (119th minute to be precise) to claim the UEFA Super Cup.

“Sometimes to play a great game it takes two sides and today we saw just that”.

New Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli, whose side lost Timothee Kolodziejczak to a red card in extra time, said: “I’m proud of the way we played. The team, despite the players missing, have shown what they are about here and to start the season with a title is always incredible”. Sevilla pulled one back four minutes before after through Franco Vasquez. In the end we won, but Sevilla were very good. “We’ve got the best players in every position, as was seen at the European Championship”. He’s grown as a player, too.

Kevin Gameiro has left Sevilla – as their top scorers always do – but many onlookers had highlighted the departure of Grzegorz Krychowiak as possibly having a greater impact on Sevilla’s ability to control games.

Daniel Carrico then forced Kiko Casilla into a fine save three minutes later after he picked up a clearance outside the box and let fly from 25 yards out.

“Up until August 31 anything can happen, but we’re really satisfied with the players that we’ve got”.
