Real Madrid will fight any sanctions after Copa del Rey farce confirms

On a night when Barcelona advanced with an easy 6-1 win against third-tier Villanovense in a first round, second leg match, Madrid and its coach Rafa Benitez were heading for trouble from Spain’s soccer federation after fielding Denis Cheryshev in a first-leg game.

That meant that the 24-year-old should have been forced to miss the clash with Cadiz; but rather than that would play an integral part in Real Madrid’s victory.

Cadiz president Manuel Vizcaino has confirmed the Segunda B club will report Real Madrid to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

“As Article 41 of the RFEF’s disciplinary code states, the punishment is not effective unless it notifies those to be punished. Neither the player, the Federation, or Villarreal informed us, it is impossible for us to know about it”.

Cheryshev should have faced a one-game suspension after accumulating three yellow cards while playing with Villarreal during the 2014 Copa Del Ray.

And in 2001, current Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez was in charge of Valencia when that team was thrown out of the same competition for fielding four non-EU players when only three were permitted. They are all very sad because we are facing a situation that has never happened before.

“No person has acted negligently at Real Madrid”.

Will Real Madrid be disqualified from the 2015-16 Copa del Rey?

Though star Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas did not play in the match Wednesday, he was expected to help lead “Los Blancos” through later rounds of the tournament against more challenging competition.

This was the second time in two weeks Perez has spoken to the media in response to a club crisis.

Osasuna were removed from this season’s Copa del Rey in September after fielding Unai Garcia – who had been sent off against Alaves last season – in a 2-1 win over Mirandes. It is reported that Madrid wrongly thought there was an amnesty at the end of last season which scrubbed Cheryshev’s ban.
