Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne celebrates scoring his side’s first goal of the game, during the Champions League Quarter Final, Second Leg soccer match between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, at the Etihad Stadiu…
“It’s a great tie against the team that has won the competition the most times”, Manchester City sport director Txiki Begiristain said after the draw.
City will play the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday week before travelling to Madrid for the return game at the Bernabeu eight days later.
The Santiago Bernabeu outfit are now third in La Liga and already out of the Copa Del Rey, meaning that the Champions League arguably remains their last hope of success for the season.
“The good thing is we play the return at home, that is always positive”, said Zidane. “They have a coach who knows exactly what he wants and a team that always competes for the Champions League title”.
Here is a brief analysis of the English Premier League side Manchester City, which Real Madrid will face in semi-final.
After knocking off Barcelona and coming back from 0-2 down after one leg against Wolfsburg, Madrid might be the hottest team left in the tournament.
“Real Madrid are always the -favourites – it’s always been that way and always will be will – but it doesn’t bother us”.
“No extra motivation for me (because of my history at Real Madrid)”, he said. But to add that title to his cabinet he needs to get past Spanish giants Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
With the ten-time European champions also through to the last four this season, there is also the very real prospect of an-all Madrid semi-final or even a potential repeat of two years ago in the final. In the replay Bayern won convincingly, with two goals each from Uli Hoeneß and Gerd Müller, giving Die Roten a 4-0 victory.
