Shock is how one mother Jackie Anselmo describes a Halloween display close to an elementary school near Cleveland, Ohio.
“I felt scared because I thought they were real people”, the girl says.
A 9 year old girl was frightened by a life-like Halloween display, less than a block from Dentzler Elementary School.
Anselmo was so troubled by it that she took a picture and emailed the city to try to get the display taken down. WOIO’s Tiffany Tucker reports that a few kids didn’t even realize it was just a display.
Anselmo tells us she and several other neighbors are bothered by how graphic the display is and say it is too close to the elementary school. No such luck; Parma officials say there’s nothing they can do because the Halloween display is protected by the First Amendment. Anselmo and other parents say it’s not appropriate to have that kind of display just feet away from a school.
We wanted to hear what the homeowners who put up the display had to say.

WOIO spoke with the residents of the controversial home, they say no one has complained to them. In fact, homeowner Vicki Barrett says it’s all in good fun and that it’s not meant to scare any kids. She said she’d never do anything that would frighten children on objective. She said it’s the parents job to tell their kids it’s fake. It’s Halloween. I don’t see a problem with it. My daughter has watched “Nightmare on Elm Street” and she’s seven.
