Record-breaking Michael Phelps adds to Olympic gold medals tally
It was a first Olympic medal for Dutton with his adoptive country after winning two straight golds with the Australian eventing team in 1996 and 2000. First there was the look on Phelps’s face as he heard himself announced at the medals podium – a look that became more emotional as the crowd’s cheers for him died away and the sound of the US national anthem filled the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio.

The result was totally expected.
If she wins that she would equal the women’s record of four solo swimming golds at a single Games set by East Germany’s Kristin Otto in Seoul in 1988.
Her powerful stroke quickly made that a moot point, too. It came on a night that American teammate Katie Ledecky picked up her second gold of the Rio Olympics on the way to what could be a historic run of her own in the pool.
“That’s been the secret that I have had through this year that keeps me healthy”, Naddour told USA Today.
Ledecky said the 200m remains a bigger mental challenge than the longer races she cut her teeth on. “That’s what I wanted and I had been so close to breaking that all year, the past two years. I knew I was due for a breakthrough”.
She’s just getting warmed up. When she saw her name atop the scoreboard, another gold to take home, the queasiness all disappeared.
It was a night of world records in Rio.
McKeon, a gold medallist in the 4×100 freestyle relay, led at half-way, with Ledecky second and Sjostrom third.
In all, six world records have fallen on the first two days of swimming.
Phelps fought back tears during his 20th career gold-medal ceremony after locking up the 200 fly victory.
For three years, Ledecky has trained with her eyes on Rio – on these moments in which she hasn’t caved, either to the pressure or the physical exertion.
Now Ledecky is signing autographs of her own after earning 14 golds for the 14 finals she has raced in Olympic and other events.
As it stands, he’s got 23 medals overall. “It was a frustrating race for me and it’s good for the sport to be able to have a competitor like that”.
Michael Phelps isn’t the only athlete adorned with polka dotted United States gymnast Alex Naddour and Belarus swimmer Pavel Sankovich has also been seen with the purple blotches too limbs and backs. “But I’m very pleased with the start”.
The 34-year-old and her sister Venus were knocked out of the women’s doubles, the three-time champions’ first ever defeat together in Olympic competition.
At age 31, the guy can still amaze. Tamas Kenderesi of Hungary won the bronze medal in 1:53.62. Vladimir Morozov, initially banned from the Olympics, was one of Russia’s relay swimmers.
The same could be said of Phelps. The day was capped by the 19-year-old Biles, a fan favorite, whose boundary-pushing floor exercise showed just how far ahead they are of everyone else. Six weeks of therapy.
“Physiologically, cupping is thought to draw blood to the affected area, reducing soreness and speeding healing of overworked muscles”, the New York Times reports. “It kind of stuck with me and I really wanted that one back”. “It always just feels good when it’s over”.
