Record-seeking Vardy fighting to be fit for Leicester

Vardy has netted in nine straight games and will equal Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record of scoring in 10 consecutive games if he notches at Newcastle on Saturday.

Gabriel Obertan and Rob Elliot could be available for selection after recovering from injuries.

Steve McClaren says he has settled upon his strongest Newcastle United side – 90 days into the Premier League season.

Southampton were actually in a better position than Leicester, with the same number of points after one less game, with a better goal difference and finished just about in the Europa League playoffs in 7th place. This team will be desperate to have a win to get their season back on track but after only two wins all season, it is looking unlikely that they will do so against a red hot Leicester City.

The formation of the Premier League in 1992 marked a separation from the Football League that has become more significant – particularly in the record books – than the initial name change might have had us expect.

Indeed, the statistics show that the former Boulogne man is one of the Premier League’s most effective ball-winners; no-one has made more interceptions than Kante (48), who’s also won 29 tackles – a tally bettered by just 10 of the division’s players, only four of whom are midfielders.

Newcastle have to come out and have a go, and the fans will expect action, and that plays into Leicester’s hands. The 25-year-old already boasts six goals and two assists.

“We need to work every day in training and try to win a few games”.

“The most important thing was the result, though”.

“We are fighting for another 15 points”. He’s a good friend of mine and I’m delighted for him.

Ranieri will decide on Saturday morning whether Vardy starts at Newcastle but the forward is anxious to play.

He has been suffering from a hip injury that caused him to miss England’s friendlies against Spain and France and Leicester’s manager Claudio Ranieri said he would only play if 100 percent fit.

“We have a few quick defenders, though”.

“Whoever is up against Vardy, we’ll have to be ready for him”.

He said: “Of course, he’s intelligent, he knows very well that now, at Leicester, there’s a very good group, A positive group who play together”.

The all-time record for consecutive top-flight goals belongs to Sheffield United’s Jimmy Dunne, who scored in 12 games in a row between October 24, 1931 at Grimsby Town and January 1, 1932, against Portsmouth.
