Recordings offer some insight into Chicago police shooting
Black Lives Matter, a loosely organized movement involved in many protests over race and policing issues, is calling holiday demonstrations “Black Christmas”. “So we’re going to continue to put pressure on the business community and allow them to force him to resign”.

Protesters block an intersection on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, calling for the resignation of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, in Chicago.
The protest Thursday is the latest in a series of demonstrations in the city since the release last month of police video showing a white officer shooting a black teenager 16 times.
The recordings obtained Wednesday by WMAQ-TV through a Freedom of Information Act Request give a partial glimpse at what the officers were saying before on the October 2014 night that Officer Jason Van Dyke killed 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
Some protesters held “Rahm Resign” placards, and one paraded past stores with a sign that read “Shopping for a New Mayor”.
In Chicago on Thursday, more than 100 demonstrators marched down North Michigan Avenue, the city’s premier shopping corridor, and laid down on the street for a “die-in”.
In California, nine women were arrested for briefly shutting down an exit ramp on U.S. Highway 101 to San Francisco International Airport, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The demonstration was mostly peaceful, but occasional tussles broke out with police, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.
Police officers manning a bicycle barricade on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue took two protesters into custody after a scuffle during which police bikes were overturned and officers and protesters grabbed and pushed one another. Protesters say Clark, who was unarmed, was wearing handcuffs when he was shot; the Police Department denies the allegation.
The call is more than likely to be used in the trial of Van Dyke, who is facing first-degree murder charges for the teen’s death.
Still, Mayfield said as she hurried down Michigan Avenue with a suitcase, “I think they’re making a statement; I think that’s good”.

Protesters wanted the huge “platform” offered by the enormous Mall of America, and “as a result we were able to impact them where it hurts, which is through their dollars”, Sole said.
