Recreational marijuana becomes legal in Oregon

Even advocates of the new law say there will be growing pains before things run smoothly.

Portland Norml is part of a national movement that’s trying to change the stigma associated with marijuana use. Marteeny was unaware of any cases where only illegal marijuana behavior is being prosecuted, and that behavior will be legal on Wednesday.

Portlanders could bring marijuana in from neighboring Vancouver, but that’s a federal offense. This includes dried marijuana (flowers and leaves), marijuana products (made from marijuana or extracts), edibles, beverages, formulations and topicals.

The voter-approved legalization of marijuana partially takes effect in Oregon this week, and the state wants to make sure people know how the new law works. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission, however, has said it won’t be ready to dole out selling licenses until late next year.

Marijuana legalization goes into effect in Oregon starting Wednesday, July 1st, when residents will be allowed to carry the green and grow a few plants of their own. Adults may also grow up to four plants, if they are out of public view.

In a dig at stereotypically hungry pot smokers, Portland police have issued a graphic showing how much marijuana a person can possess by comparing the amount with a donut.

Well, as long as you’re doing it at home or in any other private residence. They’ll have “budtenders” standing by to help you get blazed as responsibly and artisanally as possible.

What if I’m in my auto?

Not buying it won’t stop adults from using marijuana, because… where there’s a will there’s a way. Driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) refers to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated or drugged – including impairment from the use of marijuana.

The proposal would not affect medical marijuana’s tax exemption. The OLCC recommends consulting your landlord to determine what rules you are expected to follow. Can I buy some there, cross the river and smoke it in Oregon? This slow pace move towards legalizing and taxing marijuana is typical to most states who recently legalized pot for recreational use.

Recreational stores could open as early as October 1.

Oregon will be the fourth state, in addition to Washington, D.C., to end marijuana prohibition.

So marijuana entrepreneurs are giving away samples.

“July 1st is a great step forward for Oregon and the rest of the nation, but it is just one step on the path to true equality and freedom and ending a barbaric war that is being waged against nonviolent citizens”.
