Recreational Marijuana Sales to Begin October 1 in Oregon
But not for much longer, as the state’s Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed a law on Tuesday allowing existing medical marijuana dispensaries to lawfully sell recreational marijuana beginning October. 1, reports the Huffington Post.

Oregon’s Liquor Control Commission will license recreational stores next year, but dispensaries will have to go through the Oregon Health Authority.
The new law is intended to provide adults with legal access to marijuana while the state crafts the rules and regulations for recreational marijuana sales to adults, which are expected to begin in the summer of 2016. The use of pot recreationally has been legal in Oregon since July 1, but there was no mechanism for the legal sale of the drug.
Consumers will be allowed to purchase limited quantities of dried marijuana, seeds and plant starts, but not edibles. Taxes on the drug won’t kick in until January 4.
The law approved by voters last November allowing personal use and possession took affect on July 1st, but there was no place to legally buy it.
