Red Cross: Donate blood, get a free haircut in September

Blood donations regularly run low during summer months, when schools aren’t having blood drives and donors are often too busy to make an appointment, due to vacations and holidays. Type B negative and A negative blood can be transfused to Rh-positive or negative patients. When demand for the most needed types begins to outpace donations, the Red Cross alerts donors to help restock the shelves.

“We are pleased to partner with Sport Clips Haircuts in September nationwide, and through their generosity, offer a coupon for a free haircut to thank our wonderful volunteer blood donors for their lifesaving gift to help patients in need”, Donna M. Morrissey, director of national partnerships, Red Cross Biomedical Services said in a statement.

He dismissed insinuations that a person could die while donating blood, saying that the donor rather becomes healthier and strong. Donors with type AB blood are urged to give blood or platelets to restock the plasma supply. Her need alone could add up to 1,100 units.
