Red Cross seeks blood donors in August
According to the organization, blood donations often decrease in August as final summer vacations are planned and back-to-school activities ramp up.

“Nationwide we can actually see as few as 100,000 donors during those three months during the summer”, said Red Cross External Communications Manager Katie Gaynor.
The American Red Cross reported a looming shortage of the most needed blood types and are calling on donors with O negative, B negative and A negative blood to donate.
He once gave platelets for a burns patient in Queensland after his blood was found to be an exact match. These are the most in demand blood types and are in constant need.
The Mountain Home Blood Donation Center, located at 1041 Highland Cir.in Suite 22, also offers blood donation opportunities from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and provide a Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID. “To give a double red donation, you have to have a higher iron level and meet certain height and weight requirements”, said Eckert.
