Red-hot Chicago Cubs complete sweep of Washington Nationals

The Cubs won yesterday’s game 4-3 in extra innings, and swept the four-game series.

Before the Cubs’ game Sunday, I asked manager Joe Maddon if he would be able to enjoy Jake Arrieta’s battles against the Nationals’ Bryce Harper that afternoon.

This is the second time the Cubs have been on the cover of the magazine this season. Not surprisingly, though, at least one player on the Nationals didn’t agree with the strategy.

It was also an unusual game for reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper. His 13 walks over the four-game series were the most on record, and his last 12 plate appearances of the series consisted of one sacrifice fly, one hit-by-pitch and 10 (!) of those said walks, four of which were intentional. I have no problem with that whatsoever …

Bryce Harper attended Las Vegas High School.

“They had a plan”, Harper said.

“I think everybody was up on the steps and preaching about what they thought was going on, ” Harper said.

INDIANS 5, ROYALS 4 Josh Tomlin (5-0) allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 6-plus innings and became the first Cleveland pitcher to win his first five outings since Justin Masterson in 2011. He struck out seven and walked two.

The winning pitcher was Shawn Kelley (1-0), who got the last out in top of the ninth, while Lowe (1-2) suffered the loss.

Cahill went three scoreless in addition to delivering a rally-starting single in the seventh inning and allowed just one hit and two walks. Chicago attempted to take hold of the lead in the 11th inning when Jason Heyward was sent home from first base on Bryant’s one out double, but he was tagged out just before touching home.

“Got to work security for the visitor’s bus after the game today & witnessed something fantastic!” “Good sinker, good slider, this guy’s going to be good for a long time”. Unless Nationals manager Dusty Baker is willing to reshape the batting order to give Harper more support, the rest of the league is incentivized to walk Harper, too. “I guess that’s part of the game and part of strategy”.

I can see slapping him with a fine, but a suspension? I understand what he did was not right, but suspending him for saying a couple of curse words seems awfully excessive. “You’re sitting on the edge of your seat”.

Ryan Braun homered the second straight game and is 15 for 35 (.429) during an eight-game hitting streak. “So we had to try to parcel that game out among the other relievers, and give them all credit, they all were outstanding”.
