‘Red-shirts’ rally leader Jamal arrested
Jamal, the Sungai Besar Umno chief, was arrested by a team from the Dang Wangi police station at 9pm yesterday, according to his secretary Durrany Izam.

Separately, the police have also stepped up patrols in another popular food street called Jalan Alor, not far Petaling Street, after the U.S. and Australia on Thursday issued travel alerts to its citizens to avoid visiting these places because of potential terror threats.
Jamal who was upset that certain media had caused him to spend the second day of Aidiladha in police lock-up said he is mulling whether to take legal action against the media outlets. I want to warn my media friends who reported as such that they will face stern action from me.
He also said that his lawyers would scrutinise his original statements and compare those with what was published by the media.
Zainuddin added that Jamal was investigated under Section 105 of the 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code which provides police the power to detain anyone as a preventive measure to prevent any offence including riots.
Jamal was the spokesman for the Red Shirt rally that took place in Kuala Lumpur on September 16.
“I just expressed my concerns if the authorities, including the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry fail to take action based on the complaints of the group which gathered at Petaling Street on Sept 16”, he added.
A rally planned by pro-Malay groups in Kuala Lumpur was called off without any notice Saturday, as police secured a predominantly Chinese commercial district where protesters were dispersed with water cannon earlier this month.
“I hope retailers associations and the Petaling Street traders will give their full cooperation”.
Mohd Ali Baharom or better known as Ali Tinju had earlier yesterday distanced himself from Jamal, saying that he was not with the red shirts but with the “Gerakan Merah” (Red Movement). “If there is, it’s not from us”, he is reported to have said.
“Jamal was the one who said there might be a riot”.

“If there was no Bersih 4, there would be no “Himpunan 916″ (Red Shirts rally of September 16) and there wouldn’t be rumours of a so-called riot today”, he said.
