Red Sox acquire reliever Fernando Abad from Minnesota Twins

As for reality, one trade is in the books with the Twins sending left-handed relief pitcher Fernando Abad to the Boston Red Sox for a hard-throwing relief pitching prospect. Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press added that Boston parted with pitcher Pat Light in the deal.

Abad posted a 2.65 ERA in 39 appearances for the Twins, making $1.25 million this year. Uehara, who assumed closing duties for Kimbrel, has been on the disabled list since July 20 with a right pectoral strain. He has a 3.58 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP in 297 career appearances with Houston, Washington, Oakland and Minnesota.

Abad has allowed only two home runs in 34 innings and held left-handed batters to a. 458 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, the fifth-lowest mark in the American League among relievers who have faced at least 50 lefties. He had 36 strikeouts and a 2.62 ERA in 31 innings with Triple A Pawtucket this season. In just over two innings at the major league level this season Light has surrendered eight runs on seven hits, with an earned run average of 23.63.
