Red Sox Can’t Find Wright Run Support, Blue Jays Win 5-3

For Boston Red Sox hurler Steven Wright, it’s sending a player you beaned the day before a bottle of liquor.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Troy Tulowitzki, right, watches the flight of his ball as Boston Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan, left, looks on in the third inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park, Sunday, April 17, 2016, in Boston. “We missed the strike zone a little bit in that eighth inning”. “I’d say that’s maybe an understatement”.

After hitting a batter, walking the next and loading the bases with just one out, Uehara was pulled from the mound.

The game was flying by and the Jays couldn’t find home plate in the final game of the series, but once Uehara came into the game, the pitches piled up and the outs dwindled. “You see the end result”.

Wright (0-2) allowed two runs and six hits, struck out six and walked none. The incident upset the Red Sox right-hander so much that he headed over to first and talked with Colabello making sure he was alright. “When I try to speed things up, that’s when I tend to not have the command that I want. Some days you don’t”. On the ninth pitch of the at-bat, Martin dunked a 97 miles per hour fastball into shallow right-centre field for a two-run single. Outfielder Chris Young has just one hit in seven at-bats against him with four walks and one home run. Drew Storen got three outs for his first save despite allowing two runs.

The teams meet in the finale of the four-game series on Monday in Boston’s annual Patriots’ Day game, which is scheduled for an 11:05 a.m. EDT start and coincides with the running of the Boston Marathon.

After Clay Buchholz delivered 6⅔ scoreless innings, Uehara entered a 1-0 game and was instantly dealt a tough hand when fill-in third baseman Josh Rutledge attempted an ill-advised jump throw on speedy Kevin Pillar’s infield single and chucked it over first baseman Travis Shaw’s head.

Buchholz was mixing his pitches well all morning/afternoon, inducing numerous ground balls and he deserved to win his first game of the season.

“He gets ahead in the count, 1-2 (against Tulowitzki), and then tried to execute a breaking ball to run the count 2-2 and then a couple of fastballs that leaked up to the arm side, unfortunately for the go-ahead run”, Farrell said.

Wherever the truth lies, the fact is that Kimbrel has gotten off to one lousy start when it comes to doing the job he was brought here to do, which is help the Red Sox win games.

Wright said he did it because it scared so many, including Colabellos parents, who were in the stands. “I’ve got glances off the top or the brim, but never one like that”.

Kole Calhoun, Andrelton Simmons and Geovany Soto hit consecutive RBI singles during a five-run first, matching the Angels’ season high for runs in an entire game.

Bautista’s homer hit the foul pole in left field. LHP Brett Cecil was inserted in the lineup, but pinch hit for by Colabello in the ninth.

Happ allowed only two other hits. In 10 career appearances (nine starts) against the Red Sox, Happ is 3-3 with a 4.15 ERA and he has walked 28 batters in 48 total innings. It wouldn’t be a game at Fenway Park without at least a bit of drama, however.
