Red Sox’s Clay Buchholz: Gives up granny in Saturday’s loss

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hembree deserves a full-time spot in the Red Sox bullpen. Hembree then closed things out, stretching his string of scoreless innings to 7 2/3 to start his season. Astros reliever Ken Giles (0-2) surrendered another run when a fastball got away from him for a wild pitch, allowing Ryan Hanigan to score. I know I’ve discussed the small factor of how much the platoon switch might be worth win wise, but that doesn’t mean you ignore it. “He got me today”. Everyone had at least one hit and played a huge role at some point during the game.

The Astros (6-13) lost their first extra-inning game of the season, while the Red Sox (9-9) moved to 1-1 in extra-inning games.

Buchholz was unbeaten in four career starts against the Astros, a ledger that included two complete games. We showed a lot of character. The Venezuelan native went 2.1 innings with two runs allowed on three hits with two walks issued and was charged with the loss. Ortiz went 0 for 4 with a walk.

McHugh said there wasn’t any pitch that he was feeling Friday. “Just try to get the wins”.

Wright pitched into the seventh inning, and Mookie Betts finished a home run shy of the cycle as the Boston Red Sox beat the Houston Astros 6-2 on Friday night. “It was down, kind of into his swing, and he put a good swing on it and tied the game”. It was the first time Altuve had two errors in a game since June 20, 2013. He leads the team with seven long balls this season. 350 hitter against the Astros with six home runs and 34 RBIs. “Yeah, it feels good, man, but it’s tough”. I’m trying to do it for the boys and for the team and just trying to put some wins in the column.

The game was tied a 1-1 and Clay Buchholz (0-2) had retired eight straight before walking Luis Valbuena with no outs in the fifth.

The Red Sox are still in the middle of the AL East right now and not in any danger of falling out of the race anytime soon. Jason Castro grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Gonzalez to score.

Dallas Keuchel was presented with his second straight Gold Glove award and Jose Altuve collected his Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards before Saturday’s game.

At the start of the game, everything appeared to be following the same script with the struggling Astros.

Bogaerts followed with a single that pushed Pedroia into scoring position and Ramirez plated Pedroia with a sacrifice fly to left field after David Ortiz walked. Washington improved to 13-4, while the last-place Twins are 5-13.

This season, Houston has been outscored 27-16 in the opening inning. “Obviously, the big home run from Rasmus”.

Houston is just 5-12 on the season, 3-5 at home and 9-7-1 with the over.

Gonzalez hit a solo home run in the second to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the third, Houston scratched back two runs. He got plenty of run support Saturday as Cleveland reached double digits for the first time this season. Max Stassi (wrist), is working out in the Astros extended spring training camp and could be ready for a rehab assignment very soon.

The Red Sox got to him early and often, striking for two in the first inning and adding on single runs in each of his remaining frames. He struck out 10, with Justin Upton fanning in all three of his at-bats against the 2014 American League Cy Young Award victor.
