Red Sox shouldn’t be holding their breath for Wade Davis

The Dodgers and Nationals are known to be interested in Davis, who has a $10 million option for next season.

Kansas City now sits at 49-51, 8.5 games out of first place in the AL Central and 6.5 games back in the Wild Card standings, and faces an uphill battle to the postseason with so many teams in front of it.

When eating significant money is involved, the Los Angeles Dodgers are always a possibility, but it doesn’t appear they’re keen on taking on Kennedy’s contract in order to add the coveted Davis to their bullpen.

The Royals are looking to package right-handers Wade Davis and Ian Kennedy in trade talks, according to a report from Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. He is now making $8 million for 2016. That makes him a lot like Michael Pineda, except the Yankees did not give Pineda a five-year, $70 million deal before the season. However, opting out seems unlikely, given that the 31-year old has a 4.41 ERA over 114 1/3 innings this season while allowing a league-high 26 home runs. Passan also mentions that the Dodgers are a team both with interest in Davis and the financial flexibility to take on Kennedy.

Like the Yankees, the Royals should take advantage of the seller’s market and move their elite reliever, even when they aren’t completely out of the race.
