Red Sox to put RHP Wright on DL, Ramirez on bereavement list

Archie Bradley allowed six runs – four earned – over 5 1/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Red Sox. The other came at Baltimore against the Orioles on May 31. He’s batting.270 on the season with 16 home runs and 70 RBI. But with the crowd chanting “Let’s Go Mookie”, he lined out to right field in the sixth inning and grounded to third base to end the eighth.

The toolsy 23-year-old joined a handful of pages in the history books with his monstrous game.

His teammates wanted to see him become the 17th player in major league history with four homers in a game.

“They told me try and swing for it”, Betts said.

In the first inning, Betts cleared the wall, the Monster seats, the billboards and everything else with a shot that was measured at 423 feet by ESPN Home Run Tracker. The Red Sox are 11-5 in their last 16 Sunday games and 9-1 in Porcellos last 10 starts.

Greinke would stay in to allow two more runs, with Jackie Bradley Jr. showing the benefits of his day off by going fishing for a low curve and planted it off the Pesky Pole to make it nine runs on Greinke’s resume.

Aaron Hill and Sandy Leon began the second with back-to-back singles and rookie phenom Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI double to right to drive in Hill and put his club up 3-0.

“Well, they just hit everything he threw up there”, Arizona manager Chip Hale said. It was their first three-game series win since mid-July and the first time they’ve swept a team in three games since beating up on the lowly Tampa Bay Rays from July 8-10. Farrell gave him a full day off to get treatment, and it’s possible he might need a few more, especially with an unforgiving schedule that puts the Red Sox on the road for 30 of the season’s final 46 games and doesn’t afford them another day off until September 1. He’s the first Red Sox player with at least eight RBI in a game since Bill Mueller drove in nine runs while hitting a pair of grand slams and a solo shot in 2003.

Diamondbacks: C Welington Castillo is due back Monday from bereavement leave. Manager John Farrell said after the game that RHP Steven Wright (jammed pitching shoulder) would go on the DL and Hanley Ramirez would go on the bereavement list.

Red Sox: Bradley was in the lineup after getting Saturday off to rest and nurse a sore big toe. “I hit there most of my life, so it doesn’t matter – I don’t care”, Pedroia said.

Big Papi smiled and replied: “You want to learn how to hit home runs every time?” After completing a 4-2 homestand, the Sox will embark on a four-city, 11-game road trip beginning with a makeup game Monday afternoon in Cleveland.
