Red State Gathering disinvites Donald Trump

Trump blasted Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly during a debate in Cleveland on Thursday when she questioned him about insulting comments he had made about women. “We’re going to take a very serious look at it”.

Trump was promptly dumped from a keynote speaking role on Saturday night in Atlanta at an important gathering of conservative activists put together by the RedState organisation.

“I said, “Be at my wedding” and she came to my wedding”.

The Republicans will host at least eight more debates as the party whittles down its broad field and determines its flagbearer to go up against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Asked the obvious follow-up – what did he get? – and perhaps aware that some potential answers could cause him a lot of trouble, he said that he had purchased her attendance at one of his weddings.

A statement from the Trump campaign widely cited by US media insisted that Trump was referring to Kelly’s nose, and that “only a deviant would think anything else”.

“We have to all get back to work and stop wasting time and energy on nonsense!” “I wanted to have him here as a legitimate candidate, but no legitimate candidate suggests a female asking questions does so because she’s hormonal”.

“As much as I do personally like Donald Trump, his comment about Megyn Kelly on CNN is a bridge too far for me”, organizer Erick Erickson said in a post late Friday night. “I’m sorry”.

While Trump may not have time for “political correctness”, he has had the chance to unleash a slew of tweets attacking women over the years.

Erickson said that doesn’t at all resemble the Trump situation today.

He had previously implied Mexicans crossing the border into the United States were rapists, said longtime prisoner-of-war and torture victim John McCain was not a war hero and retweeted a comment that Kelly was “a bimbo” earlier on Friday. They want to see an end to illegal immigration. I mean, she’s sitting there, reading questions.

“The day’s action in one quick read”.

“Border Patrol, people that I deal with, that I talk to, they say this is what’s happening”.

Chock full of usable information on today’s issues.

Trump’s comment also attracted the notice of Rupert Murdoch.

Still more attendees said they are not necessarily Trump supporters but want other candidates and party leaders to take heed of his rise.

Carly Fiorina, the only Republican presidential candidate, tweeted: “Mr. Trump: There. Is”. Being POTUS is tougher. “She and I, we still get along”.

Rick Perry, the former Texas governor, said Trump’s behavior shows “a serious lack of character and basic decency” that should disqualify him from the race. “Enough already with Mr. Trump”.

Trump’s Saturday statement made little attempt to clarify what exactly he was getting at. The closest was the 1992 “Larry King Live” debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot on CNN, which was seen by 16.8 million people, the Nielsen company said.
