Red Wings lose exhibition opener at Chicago 5-4 in overtime

The Red Wings and Blackhawks meet again tonight, this time at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Tatar found the net at 11:30 of the first period and 4:24 of the third period and then hit the empty net at 18:26 of the third.

After Chicago’s Andrew Shaw tied it on a power play at 14:29 of the second, Abdelkader scored on another power play 96 seconds later.

Daley’s three-on-three goal 1:40 into overtime won it.

Ryan Garbutt scored to boost Chicago’s lead to 4-1, but the Wings scored three unanswered goals.

Tatar opened the scoring midway through the first period when he carried the puck up the ice, gave it to Richards at the top of the right faceoff circle and cut toward the middle of the ice.

Forward Daniel Paille and defenseman Jan Hejda, David Rundblad and Viktor Svedberg played in both games against Detroit.

Petr Mrazek started in goal for the Wings and didn’t allow a goal in approximately 30 minutes of action stopping 16 shots. Coreau made 14 stops on 15 shots over the remainder of the game.

Corey Crawford stopped seven of the eight shots he faced. Chicago had six tries with the extra attacker while Detroit had four.
