Red Wings postgame: Carolina Hurricanes don’t let Detroit off hook in second

He had an atrocious game on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers, but he came in today and played a reliable defensive game while also contributing with a few uncharacteristic offensive plays. Though they were still outshot 26-16, the Red Wings were making their climb back to try and stay undefeated. In their last two games, Detroit allowed eight goals to the Hurricanes which was clearly a cause for concern.

And the feeling you get from reading comments made by Red Wings’ head coach Jeff Blashill is that situation is quite serious. It was their first loss of the season. They had more jump than we had. So far, we have won three games.

“We are going to face an opponent tonight that is going to be ready to play, and they are going to be ready to play from the drop of the puck, and they are going to play extremely hard”.

Marchenko Sent DownThe Wings have assigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to AHL Grand Rapids, making it nearly a certainty that Danny DeKeyser (foot ligaments) will be activated from the injured list and play Saturday in Montreal against the Canadiens.

Detroit, though, came back with two quick goals.

It was announced yesterday that the Detroit Red Wings would be placing Johan Franzen on short-term injury reserve (seven games minimum) after Franzen began to re-experience concussion symptoms stemming from a hit he took in early January against the Edmonton Oilers.

Game time is 7:30 PM on FSD.

Placed on waivers last week, when Cleary cleared and was ordered to report to Detroit’s AHL affiliate, he originally balked at the idea. I think he’s a great person. “Every day, you get a chance to prove what you are about as a team”.

“I definitely felt more comfortable and felt like I found my game”, McGinn, the 47th overall pick in the 2012 draft, told reporters after a solid training camp and preseason with Carolina before being one of the final players assigned to Charlotte.

That’s exactly why Detroit GM Ken Holland wanted to see Cleary with their top minor-league affiliate.

“I think I’ll be waking up and watching a little bit before we go to the rink”, Miller said.

“Obviously, we want him to get well, but again I don’t know what that means, I don’t know what the future holds with that”.

“I think he’s going to be a tremendous role model and a veteran”.
