“It just gets your confidence going when you can contribute on the score sheet”, Sheahan said.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – A highlight-reel goal from Dylan Larkin and a shutout by Petr Mrazek was the winning formula for the Detroit Red Wings against the New Jersey Devils. Henrik Zetterberg scored for the first time in the last seven contests and Petr Mrazek made 32 saves as Detroit snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Wings were outshot, 10-3, before Richards opened the scoring at 12:01 of the first period.

Detroit coach Jeff Blashill shuffled his lines before the Dallas game and said he expects to use the same combinations against New Jersey.

Larkin’s lead among rookie goal scorers is one over Buffalo center Jack Eichel. “Mrazek made some big saves early but after that, he was able to find pucks”.

“The third period was probably the best period we played”, Mrazek said.

Fowler was injured last week and has missed three straight games.

“We kind of crossed in our own zone and there wasn’t much room for that pass to land”, Larkin said. Reinhart scored for his first goal in 11 games for the Sabres.

The New Jersey Devils are fresh off a victory over the NHL’s top team and looking for their longest win streak against the Detroit Red Wings since the 1995 Stanley Cup Final.

Zetterberg drifted into the slot to slap a big rebound past Johnson 2:27 into the third to restore Detroit’s lead. The Devils won the game 4-3 and easily chased Jimmy Howard from between the pipes with three goals on three consecutive shots in the opening period.

The goal came just moments after Buffalo forward Evander Kane hit the goal post with a wrist shot that would have given the Sabres a lead.

Brouwer put St. Louis on the scoreboard late in the first period, and Shattenkirk made it 2-0 at 7:42 of the second period. Sheahan deflected defenseman Mike Green’s long shot seconds before a Sabres penalty on defenseman Cody Franson expired.

Larkin got Schneider to go down with a forehand fake before pulling the puck to his backhand and sliding it in behind the goaltender for his 14th goal of the season – most among National Hockey League rookies.

NOTES: C Tyler Ennis and D Carlo Colaiacovo were scratched for the Sabres.

The Devils beat the Red Wings twice last month.

He stopped 24 of 26 shots faced in Monday’s 2-0 loss, and 31 of 33 in Thursday’s loss to the Islanders. With the goalie battle that has been brewing in Detroit, the Red Wings have many unanswered questions and could be headed in the opposite direction as the Devils.
