Redblacks make one lineup change for Grey Cup

The RedBlacks are attempting to become just the second team since 1948 to go from a two win season to Grey Cup champion. “Once we got the lead he senses the game is in his control”. The 30-year-old Whyte, a seven-year CFL veteran who played two seasons with B.C. prior to joining the Alouettes, was considering a job as a cable installer and repairman when Edmonton summoned him. “We’re just like everybody else”.

“All it takes is winning one to truly set the world on fire”. “And then Marcel (Ottawa GM Marcel Desjardins) rang the phone and I said ‘I’m coming'”.

Burris then broke into a verse of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”.

“All right, a Billy Joel reference”, he said.

“That obviously would be great, but I’m not going to stress myself out thinking about that”, Whyte said with a smile after Edmonton’s final preparations at Investors Group Field Saturday. The Eskimos advanced to the Grey Cup last week with a 45-31 win over the Calgary Stampeders in the Western Final.

Burris, 40, has been gold all week, smiling and talking up a storm.

The REDBLACKS are the Cinderella story of Grey Cup, rebounding from a 2-16 record in their inaugural 2014 season to finish first in the East this year at 12-6. “I just love playing football again”.

The Algonquin Loggersports Team traditionally slices a “wood cookie” off a log in the west endzone at Ottawa’s TD Place to mark a Redblacks touchdown. But as I got there and got to be part of this thing, it turned into so so much more.

“These girls are home all year and I don’t get to see them a whole lot”, he said.

Excitement for the Canadian football showdown of the year is nearing its peak in Winnipeg as Edmonton and Ottawa fans decked themselves out in team colours and engaged in a bit of friendly trash talk for the Grey Cup.

“If in fact it is the case, it would be very disappointing for our student athletes who are very excited to have this opportunity, but at the end of the day, they will be thrilled to be at the Grey Cup and hopefully something will work out”, said Jamie Bramburger, Manager, Student & Community Affairs, Pembroke Campus at Algonquin College. While the club had a well-stocked trophy cabinet from the past, it was withering on the vine. Ottawa was up 19-18 after three. The Redblacks are a younger franchise, added as an expansion team last season. “And they were starving for it for years when it was away”.

Phillips was in junior high when the Renegades were around.

“I’m not going to stress about it because most of the time those opportunities don’t come”, he said. “It’s one game. Anything can happen”. Winnipeg native Don Oramasionwu will play today on the defensive line, fellow D-lineman 46-man roster, running back Chad Simpson will come out. Brandon Sermons will start at cornerback.
