Reddick and Hill both upgrades for Dodgers
As for the three players the A’s got in return, one American League scout said, “I’d say they did well for two players who will be free agents at the end of the year”.

It should be noted that the Dodgers aren’t scheduled to be in Oakland Coliseum the rest of the season, so he won’t see his bleacher friends featured by this newspaper a year ago.
They’re probably just as excited to get to know the team’s newest prospects.
The retooling New York Yankees have dealt right-hander Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates for two players to be named.
Cotton is trying to join Jabari Blash as Virgin Islands-born players in the major leagues. Holmes, 20, was 8-4 with one save and a 4.02 ERA in 20 games (18 starts) for Class A Rancho Cucamonga this year.
Previous year it was the addition of Yoenis Cespedes that sparked the Mets offense and carried them to a trip to the World Series.
A 39-year-old switch-hitter, Beltran led the Yankees with a.304 batting average, 22 homers and 64 RBIs.
The focus now shifts to Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who has been the subject of trade rumors of late amid a disappointing season.
Puig’s name has come up frequently in trade rumors, with the most recent ones linking him to the Chicago White Sox, who have a history of success with Cuban players and employ Puig’s former teammate with Cienfuegos, first baseman Jose Abreu. The team talked to him about an extension last week – it’s believed Hill was looking for two years and roughly $28 million – and Oakland is no stranger to the notion of re-signing starters after the season, doing so with Bartolo Colon in 2013 and having discussions with Scott Kazmir last winter. He only posted a 1.53 WHIP and a 4.80 ERA, but at twenty-three years old, he still has plenty of time to develop even more. Reddick is earning $6,575,000 this year.
Josh Reddick was packaged with Rich Hill in a blockbuster deal with the Dodgers. Reddick is an excellent addition for the Dodgers, as he is an established major league bat, averaging 21 home runs per 162 games and a career.255 average. He’s nearly healthy now, but it’s not clear he will pitch before the minor league season ends in about a month. This was his fifth year with the A’s after spending his first three big league seasons with Boston. San Francisco has won two straight games since losing 11 of 13 following the All-Star Game.
The Dodgers filled a pair of needs Monday by agreeing to a trade with the Oakland Athletics to send left-hander Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick to Los Angeles, a source told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. Castillo had gone from Miami to San Diego in Friday’s deal.
Hill, a journeyman signed in the offseason to a one-year $6 million, went 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA during his four months wearing green and gold.
Hill helps the Dodgers rotation stay intact and good enough talent-wise until Clayton Kershaw returns from a DL stint of his own.
The deal was first announced Monday before the non-waiver trade deadline, giving the Red Sox another veteran for the bullpen in their pursuit of Baltimore and Toronto in the AL East race.
