Reds lose 14th in a row to Mets, swept again

According to the New York Mets, over the last nine games, New York’s pitching staff has posted a 2.30 ERA (21 earned runs/82.0 innings).

Granderson hit his fifth homer in his last eight games to help the Mets to a 6-3 win over the Reds on Wednesday afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

The over is 9-2 in the Mets last 11 road games and the Mets are 12-4 in their last 16 overall while going 12-4 in their last 16 games on grass. NY has won 18 of its last 20 against Cincinnati, including its division-clinching win at Great American Ball Park last September 26.

Granderson gave the Mets a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning Wednesday by stroking a homer off Anthony DeSclafani, and Reyes and Wilmer Flores also swatted home runs. “It was bad baseball”.

“This was not our typical game”.

Carlos Carrasco pitched into the eighth inning to get the win.

“We were fortunate he kept us in the game”, Collins said.

Reyes hit a leadoff home run, Noah Syndergaard lasted five shaky shutout innings and the Mets won their fifth in a row, beating the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 Wednesday.

Granderson’s hot stretch began August 30 when he hit two homers against Miami, and he tallied five RBIs in the two wins over Washington on Saturday and Sunday.

The Mets finished off a three-game sweep and have won eight of 10.

NY (74-66) entered play on Wednesday trailing the St. Louis Cardinals by one game for the second wild-card spot in the National League.

Cincinnati went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position against Syndergaard (13-8). However, the Reds went 0-for-3 in attempted steals against the combination of Syndergaard and catcher Rene Rivera. Cespedes followed with his 28th homer of the season, New York’s third home run of the game.

“We had some mistakes and missed opportunities”, Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Alejandro De Aza led off the ninth with a pinch-hit homer against Blake Wood, extending to 26 the franchise record for most home runs allowed to the first batters faced by relief pitchers.

The Mets (74-66) have won five straight and swept a series for the first time since June 30-July 3.

Jose Peraza was thrown out at home with Joey Votto at the plate and Eugenio Suarez on 1B with 1-out in the Bottom of the 3rd inning on Wednesday, but considering the other foibles produced by a largely lackluster Cincinnati Reds team, that barely moved the needle. He struck out seven and improved to 4-1 with a 1.38 ERA over his last five starts.

When Granderson enters one of his hot streaks, though, he can be a run-producing machine, and over the past week and a half, the veteran has started hitting with authority. “He’s been swinging the bat well lately. They have a good lineup and they’re playing pretty good”. You’ve got to give Cespedes something to hit. Mets manager Terry Collins doesn’t believe LHP Steven Matz or RHP Jacob DeGrom will make their next starts. “I told him yesterday, ‘With all you’ve been through, why don’t you catch your breath and get ready for Friday?'” Collins said. Reds CF Billy Hamilton will not travel with the team for this weekend’s series at Pittsburgh and will remain in Cincinnati to receive treatment for his strained left oblique.
