Redskins’ coaches want to cut ties with RG3, ownership resists
It’s been a really weird preseason for the Washington Redskins, especially with regards to starting quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Today, Gruden addressed the media and said that he’s encouraging his players to block out the negativity surrounding the franchise.
Grudent told reporters that after reviewing film and discussion with others, that the Redskins have the best chance to win with Cousins.
Although Gruden said after the game that he was undecided on who the Redskins’ starting quarterback would be in Week 1, Cousins said he is preparing to start against the Dolphins.
According to ESPN’s latest report, even if ownership forces the team to hang on to Griffin, the team is “determined to start a different quarterback than Griffin”.
Sources also confirmed the news to WUSA9’s Dave Owens. Freeman spoke to an National Football League head coach who said leaving Griffin in the game against Detroit, “looks personal to me”.
In this past weekend’s preseason game against a talented Baltimore Ravens team, Cousins helped move Washington’s offense on two scoring drives, both of which ended in touchdowns in the second quarter. This past week, Griffin declined to even say if he had a concussion.
But then a day later, the team reversed course and an independent neurologist issued a statement saying that Griffin would be out for a few weeks, without ever using the word concussion. It’s eating away at the coach, and probably others, but we only regularly hear from Gruden. He called the decision “a process”.
Why rule Griffin out now, unless the Redskins actually prefer Cousins at quarterback and are using the injury as an excuse to get Griffin out of the lineup? It’s an opportunity Cousins wasn’t sure would come his way again after he was benched in favor of fellow backup Colt McCoy last fall.
“Right now, I’m going to evaluate the game, go from there and find out how Robert is doing”, the second-year coach said.
When asked if the Redskins should consider getting a fourth quarterback, Gruden responded that he thought three was enough. “It’s not about anything but my family and them caring for me and my well-being”.
“There’s something powerful about knowing you’re believed in, something powerful about knowing where you stand”, Cousins said.

It is also important to note that Cousins didn’t surrender any sack.
