Redskins drop season opener to the Steelers 38-16
Ben Roethlisberger recovered his own fumble at a pivotal moment and didn’t look back, throwing three touchdown passes to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 38-16 victory over Washington Monday night.

The Steelers didn’t care who was on Brown, whether it be All-Pro Josh Norman or Breeland.
“I had confidence going in but like we said several times confidence only goes so far; those guys gotta deliver the plays”, Tomlin said. But we all know what proximity gets you.
“Third downs, you understand that you have to get off the field” said Redskins defensive lineman Kedrick Golston.
With the Steelers trailing, 6-0, and looking a little listless on offense, Kerrigan knocked the ball out of Roethlisberger’s hand and picked it up and tried to run with it. Pouncey jumped on his back and knocked the ball free, allowing Roethlisberger to fall on the loose ball. Antonio Brown was the main target through the air, catching 136 passes with 1,834 yards and 10 touchdowns.
“It’s always pretty good to dial his number”.
Cousins finished the Monday night game with completing 30 of 43 passes for 329 yards with no touchdowns and the two interceptions.
-The Steelers did not sack Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and that angered defensive end Cam Heyward.
But it’s what the Steelers got from Williams, James, Rogers and Coates that was the difference in the game.
If there’s one big takeaway from the game, it’s that if the Steelers are this good with key guys missing, imagine how risky they’re going to be when everyone is back. So the home team had a point to prove on the grand stage of “Monday Night Football”. Hopkins was the Redskins’ entire offensive production until Thompson’s touchdown.
Rogers managed to bring a bouncing ball down for the team’s second touchdown of the half – and Rogers’ first career touchdown.
That was more than enough to overwhelm the Redskins, who looked helpless as Brown lit them up for 11 receptions for 126 yards, two touchdowns and a comically risque celebration that drew a flag and set social media aflame.
“It wasn’t haphazard by any stretch”, Tomlin said Tuesday.
Carlos Hyde scored two touchdowns as part of his 88 yards on 23 carries for the 49ers.

REED OPTION: Reed caught three passes for 39 yards on the Redskins’ opening drive and was a nonfactor with four catches for 25 yards the rest of the way. I think people thought, ‘What are you going to do without Martavis, what are you going to do without Le’Veon, without (retired tight end) Heath Miller?’ Washington fans had to wait a day longer than most of the rest of the National Football League but get a Monday night home opener against the playoff-caliber Steelers. Both teams reached last season’s playoffs, but it was Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown who starred for the Steelers. That came with Bell serving the first game of his three-game drug suspension and DeAngelo Williams filling in more than admirably like he did last season. Ryan Shazier had the type of game needed from him before departing in the second half due to an injury. The Redskins need to become a better-disciplined team if they expect to defend their 2015 NFC East title.
