“A physical, hard-nosed football game”, NY coach Ben McAdoo said, “against a hungry team, on the road, where we ran the ball, we stopped the run, we took care of the ball, and we took the ball away”.
GIANTS ON THE RUN: While they rank No. 29 in the league in rushing with an 83.4-yard average, the Giants are starting to show signs that the ground game is improving.
After Cousins’ interception, he got the ball back with 6 seconds remaining, enough time to attempt one last play, which was a fumbled lateral recovered by the Giants and returned for a touchdown.
In a game where victory likely meant the playoffs, the Redskins’ loss to the Giants ended the team’s season in challenging fashion. The Redskins utilized those time outs getting the ball back to their offense at the 4-yard line with 4-seconds left. The defense did their job in the end, stopping the Giants offense four times.
Washington tied it with a 76-yard drive that started early in the final quarter.
A porous offensive line allowed pressure on Cousins, who struggled to have time to complete passes. NY has gained 96, 114 and 114 yards in the past three games, and the big difference has been the play of rookie Paul Perkins.
Giants first-year Coach Ben McAdoo was true to the pledge he had made earlier in the week and left the majority of his starters in the game, even after taking the 10-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Kirk Cousins threw a ball to the outside intended for Maurice Harris.
Cousins and the Redskins’ offense were shut out in the first half and managed a season-low 284 total yards.
On defense, cornerback Josh Norman appeared to be losing the battle against his own temper. McAdoo said Perkins “ran nicely”, but still would not commit to Perkins continuing as the No. 1 back when the playoffs begin next week. Robbie Gould hit two field goals (22, 40) and nailed the extra points.
NY started the second quarter on their own 26 after a punt. RB Rashad Jennings also had 52 yards on 18 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter… Jackson has 100-plus yards receiving in three consecutive games and four of five, and Garcon had four catches for 94 yards last week.
Beckham finished with five catches for 44 yards, giving him 101 catches for the season.
“This isn’t my first time dealing with this, ” Cousins said through a bit of a forced smile. After a Jordan Reed touchdown the Redskins defense gave up a field goal.
WAS: S Su’a Cravens (upper arm), CB Quinton Dunbar (concussion), OL Vinston Painter (calf), QB Nate Sudfeld, RB Matt Jones, S Josh Evans, C Kory Lichtensteiger.

The game was much more meaningful to the Redskins, who needed a win to secure a playoff berth. TE Jerrell Adams (shoulder) and CB Coty Sensabaugh (ankle) were also out for the Giants.
