Redskins sign Josh Norman to 5-year, $75M deal
Norman’s tag was rescinded by Carolina this week, putting him on the market, where the Redskins are reportedly a prime suitor. The two sides could never agree on monetary compensation.

Norman had the best year of his career last season with four interceptions, 16 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Pairing Norman with Bashaud Breeland gives the Redskins a fine defensive backfield and this unit should overall be a talented, energetic bunch. “We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well”, Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said on the team’s official website.
When [the franchise tag was rescinded] it was insane because Mr. Bruce (Allen), the President, hit [me] up right away with a jersey, No. 24.
Wednesday afternoon the Carolina Panthers chose to withdraw the franchise tag they previously placed on cornerback Josh Norman.
There are ways to clear more cash without creating huge roster holes elsewhere.
As of Friday, the Redskins have an estimated $11.1 million available in cap space and will have to get creative to make Norman’s contract fit into the payroll.
“I want to win the Super Bowl”, Norman said. You guys went past year, I’m looking forward to going even deeper into the playoffs and then the Super Bowl. It sent defensive coordinator Joe Barry and defensive-backs coach Perry Fewell to Atlanta, where Norman lives, on owner Dan Snyder’s private jet to pick up Norman, agent Ryan Williams and Norman’s family.
Other cornerbacks to sign elsewhere in free agency include Janoris Jenkins (Giants), Prince Amukamara (Jaguars), Brent Grimes (Buccaneers), Brandon Boykin (Panthers), Leodis McKelvin (Eagles), Brandon Browner (Seahawks) and Patrick Robinson (Colts).
When initial reports of guarantees and total values come out regarding National Football League contracts, it’s always important to wait for the details before drawing a final conclusion.
Norman bothered opposing quarterbacks, too.

Gettleman did not return phone calls seeking comment. It will be interesting to see what moves the Panthers make in the draft next week to patch up the cornerback position.
