Redskins win with chip on shoulders

Washington Redskins’ Kirk Cousins (8) is sacked by Philadelphia Eagles’ Fletcher Cox (91) and Vinny Curry (75) in the first half of an NFL football game, Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, in Philadelphia.

Broncos’ Osweiler to remain starter while Manning continues recovery
After handing the New England Patriots their first loss of the season, Osweiler struggled against a mediocre Oakland Raiders team. Coach Gary Kubiak will have to decide which quarterback he feels gives him the best chance to win heading into the playoffs.

Sadly enough, after showing where they stand against one of the best teams in the NFC, the Eagles are still in the playoff hunt because the NFC East is so weak this season.

Jason Van Dyke Court Hearing Scheduled Amid Chicago Protests
A small crowd of people followed Van Dyke out of the courthouse Friday shouting “16 times and a cover up”, local media reported . He has been indicted by a grand jury on six counts of first-degree murder and one charge of misconduct.

The Eagles have no one to blame but themselves.

“There was a lot of confusion on what the play call was”, Cousins said.

What, exactly, is the Eagles’ identity right now?

According to the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info), Cousins is the first quarterback in franchise history to throw for at least 300 yards and four touchdowns in back-to-back games. Ryan Mathews started the game, but he was ineffective.

To make matters worse, their big free agent running back, DeMarco Murray, only played eight snaps and carried the ball two times for three yards. It finished with just 45 rushing yards on 16 carries. In less than 90 seconds, Murray went from scoring a 4-yard touchdown to coughing up a Bradford pitch that DeAngelo Hall returned 17 yards to give Washington a 13-point cushion. Murray, though, sparked a third quarter touchdown drive and crossed the goal line for the first time since November 8. They easily drove down the field on their first possession as Bradford completed all four of his passes for 50 yards.

Just by looking at the play selection, it’s clear what the Redskins’ gameplan was.

The season that came to a crashing halt on Sunday night against Washington did so for a box full of reasons, and there is plenty of blame to go around. Jordan Reed caught his eighth and ninth touchdowns of the season last week and has caught all 16 of his targets for 204 yards and three scores over the last two games.

Once an embattled, turnover-prone quarterback, Kirk Cousins has finally blossomed while leading the Washington Redskins to the brink of the NFC East title.

For the Redskins, a poor defensive performance from the Eagles means they’ll have total control of this matchup, especially in the running game.

On their next drive, Bradford floated a pass to Agholor in the end zone. The other standout player on defense tonight is safety Dashon Goldson, who led the team in tackles and had the second fumble recovery.

Instead, Washington took a six-point lead into halftime despite a baffling end to the second quarter which cost it even more cushion to the lead. I think Cousins deserves credit, however, for demonstrating maturity and growth in his ability to put a major mistake behind him and play an otherwise solid effort in a pass-heavy game.

Cousins later threw his fourth touchdown pass of the night, to wide receiver Pierre Garcon, and a two-point conversion gave Washington a 38-17 lead. On the drive, Washington converted three straight third down plays.
