Reed seeks ‘sweet revenge’ against Europe in Ryder Cup

The Barclays marked the start of the PGA Tour playoffs but it also signalled the end of the Ryder Cup qualifying for the Americans.

Senden did enough to move from 99 to 80 and secure a start in this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, where he will be joined by Victorians Aaron Baddeley (56) and Marc Leishman (71).

Fowler still hasn’t won in four tries as a 54-hole leader on the PGA Tour, and this one might sting.

Clarke is due in the coming days to announce his three captain s picks for the tournament, which begins next month in Minnesota. Love will make three captain’s picks after the BMW Championship on September 12 and the final one on September 25 after the Tour Championship.

“The short game has been there for me”, Fowler said.

Fowler, who outdueled Henrik Stenson previous year in Norton, shot 4-over par over the last four holes of The Barclays at Bethpage Black on Long Island Sunday to go from a possible win to a tie for seventh.

The 41st Ryder Cup will be held Sept 27 – Oct 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska and will be televised by KARE 11.

The good news for Fowler is that he now has two weeks to make an impression on Love, who will make three of his four wild-card picks at the conclusion of the BMW Championship.

It sends him back to his second Ryder Cup after he so famously – or infamously – put his index finger to his lips and shushed a vocal European crowd at the 2014 event in Gleneagles, Scotland.

Sean O’Hair shot a 66 to climb into a tie for second at eight under. A two-time tour victor this year, Kim finished in the top 10 for the sixth time in 2016.

Scott said even though the FedEx Cup playoffs were in their 10th year, some players were still warming up to the idea.

Defending champion and top-ranked Jason Day of Australia (70), Justin Thomas (66), Kevin Streelman (67) and Gary Woodland (68) are four shots behind in a tie for sixth.

Reed’s victory moved him from eighth to fourth in the final points standings.

A birdie on the 12th then doubled Reed’s advantage and, when Fowler was again unable to save par from sand on the 15th, the destiny of the title was effectively decided and allowed Reed the luxury of bogeys on the 16th and 18th.

Bundled up in a winter jacket between shots with the temperature in the lows 50s on the overcast afternoon, the second-ranked Jutanugarn matched the tournament record of 23 under set by So Yeon Ryu two years ago at London Hunt in Ontario and the mark for strokes of 265 set by Ryu and also accomplished by Lydia Ko in 2013 at par-70 Royal Mayfair in Edmonton.

It was Reed’s 10th top-10 finish in his last 25 events.

South Korea’s In Gee Chun, the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open champion, was third at 18 under after a 69. Not only are they playing for the FedEx Cup and for a lot of money, trying to win the last tournament of the year, but they have got this Ryder Cup thing hanging over them.

Pieters, 24, birdied the final three holes at Himmerland for a 6-under 65 and a 17-under 267 total. According to the PGA Tour website Fowler has also earned almost $2.5 million dollars this year. American David Lipsky (67) and Spain’s Adrian Otaegui (67) were two strokes back.
