Reggie Wayne to take physical for Patriots

Wayne told 24-Hour News 8 in July that he still wanted to play football and now it might be against the Colts biggest rival New England.

The 36-year-old is a six-time Pro Bowler.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Wayne is in New England to take a physical with the Patriots. Wayne had his worst season since 2002 last season, totaling 64 receptions for 779 yards and two touchdowns while dealing with an elbow injury and torn triceps in the second half of the season.

Patriots receivers have been plagued by injuries this summer.

The New England Patriots offense has been without wide receivers Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, Aaron Dobson and Brian Tyms during the preseason, and now you can add Brandon Gibson to the list of injured wideouts.

“He’s obviously just a tremendous wide receiver”, Belichick said.

NBC Sports quoted a lot of what Belichick had to say about Wayne. He’s really a very dependable and reliable guy. He averaged more than 70 yards per game in 12 games against the Patriots for his career and caught five touchdowns, so Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have seen plenty of him.

One thing the Patriots will consider when deciding on whether to sign Wayne: He is a “vested veteran”, meaning his entire 2015 salary will become fully guaranteed if he makes the Patriots’ Week 1 roster.
