The talk show duo also announced the news on the show this morning with a silly segment in which Philbin played a bartender before lifting the veil on his new daytime gig.

“Regis brings his legendary charm and humor each time he visits Today“, Tammy Filler, the co-executive producer of “Today” said in a statement.

Regis has been no stranger to Today’s fourth hour, having made numerous appearances over the past few months – including a guest spot in Kathie Lee’s Today: The Musical.

The news reunites Philbin and Gifford, who co-hosted Live! for 15 years until Gifford left in 2001. He retired from the program in 2011 after almost three decades. Among other career highlights, Philbin has written two memoirs, broke the Guinness World Record for Most Hours on Camera, and hosted ABC’s “Who Wants to be a Millionaire“, one of the highest rated primetime game shows in history.
