As a state, Wisconsin finished near the head of the class nationally in ACT scores.

The ACT tests students on math, reading, English and science.

Students who are trying to raise their ACT scores for scholarship or college admission purposes can take the ACT again multiple times, but they have to pay to do so on their own time.

All Kentucky students take the ACT once as juniors, and it’s that single performance that gets reflected in a school’s or school district’s averages.

“We are very proud that our students continue to achieve at high levels and that our scores are improving”, said Theresa Ewald, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning.

The ACT will be administered this school year on September 12, October 24, December 12, February 6, April 9 and June 11.

“Staff has worked hard as a building to focus on literacy, and our science department has instituted curricular and instructional improvements that are paying dividends for our students”, he said.

The college entrance exam tests students in four subjects: English, reading, math and science.

The high school will use the results to recommend classes students should take their senior year to increase their scores.

A spokesperson for Sioux City school district says DeLeon was also a soccer coach at West High School.

Similarly, Lake Country districts turned in scores much higher than the state average.

“Sometimes you may have a group that inflates the numbers”, Newton said.

Honea Path-based District 2 Superintendent Richard Rosenberger was happy with his district’s 2-point jump. This average has risen from last year’s 22.6 average and from a 20.8 average over the past decade, the test results showed. “My goal is to have the district consistently score high”.

About 73 percent of Wisconsin seniors took the exam this year.

“National testing results such as these outstanding ACT scores reinforce what we at Cherokee County School District already know: Our teachers and administrators are preparing students for success in higher education and careers”, said School Superintendent Dr. Frank Petruzielo.

Myrah said the school’s current performance and history of high ACT scores demonstrates the students’ academic achievement and college readiness.

“We were significantly above the state composite score”, said School District of Oconee spokeswoman Sharon Sanders. Thus, many states’ scores will likely always be higher than Kentucky’s.
